Brånemark’s second patient, Sven Johansson received his implants in 1967.Brånemark’s second patient, Sven Johansson, also of Gothenburg, received his implants in 1967. Sven’s missing dentition was restored with two full-arch gold/ acrylic bridges supported by a total of 11 Brånemark System implants in the upper and lower jaw.Gösta Larsson of Gothenburg, Sweden, was the first patient to be treated with implants by Professor Per-Ingvar Brånemark. That was in 1965. When Larsson passed away in 2006, he had had his implants— still in place and fully functioning— for more than forty years."No one should have to die with their teeth in a glass of water beside their bed" Prof Per Ingvar Branemark"Think first, then cut." Prof Per Ingvar Branemark"A decisive factor in patient care is simplification of dental treatment, which should be based on identifying and utilising the enormous capacity of the existing anchoring tissue. When possible, one should avoid unnecessary advanced and complicated major grafting procedures" (Prof Per Ingvar Branemark 2012)"Surgery is not cutting, but a gentle handling of mother nature gifts" P-I Branemark (Gothenburg 2012)Per Ingvar Branemark, thank you for changing the world of dentistry
