Gummy smile correction
A 23 year old Male came with a chief complaint of excessive gum display while smiling along with dark gums. On clinical examination, he had 7-8 mm of gingival display on smiling, along with diffused pigmentation on the gingiva although his skin tone was wheatish. Also, the length of his maxillary central incisors was 8.5 mm and that of lateral incisors was 7.5 mm. Hence, the reason for excessive gum display while smiling was because of short teeth due to altered passive eruption as well as some vertical maxillary excess as well as hypermobile upper lip which shifted apically while smiling. A combination surgery was planned to lengthen the upper anterior teeth from 1st premolar to 1st premolar along with lip repositioning surgery for upper lip as well as gingival depigmentation was done with electrocautery. The final result is beautiful and the patient is extremely happy.
